Dumball 2009 Raising for New Cancer Unit at The Royal Marsden Hospital in Surrey

A new Teenage Cancer Trust unit is being built at The Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton, Surrey – a centre of excellence in the region for cancer treatment.

Design of the teenage cancer unit will incorporate innovative ideas about space and décor along with state-of-the-art equipment. The unit will include social and recreation areas, and education zone, kitchen and dining area for patients and parents, digital lighting systems, broadband connectivity and cutting edge computing and entertainment equipment.  Building work is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2010 when hopefully the appeal target will have been reached.

This unit will cost Teenage Cancer Trust over £3million and we will be launching our London and South East Appeal publicly in the summer of 2009.

The Royal Marsden Teenage Cancer Trust unit will provide treatment for teenagers and young adults from Kent, Surrey and Sussex – helping them to fight cancer.

Teenage Cancer Trust is delighted and very grateful for the support of all the Dumball Rally entrants and this is a wonderful way to pay tribute to a special friend and previous Dumballer, Adam Horn who sadly lost his battle with cancer.

For more information about the appeal, please visit www.teenagecancertrust.org or contact Helen Haynes on 07943 817274 or helenhaynes@teenagecancertrust.org

MORE ABOUT ADAM:

22 year old Adam lost his life to Leukaemia on January 9th 2008 having first contracted the disease at the age of 16. This is his story, complete with entry to the Dumball rally ‘07!

Adam had a life saving bone marrow transplant in November 2001 and during his treatment and the following years before relapsing in 2006, he proved an inspiration to others and touched the lives of many, many people through his presence and via his dad’s blog at www.adamhorn.com Adam enjoyed his involvement with the Teenage Cancer Trust and worked in their office for a month in the middle of treatment. In the last year of his life he had his leg amputated but within a few months, was travelling on the Dumball rally to Istanbul. Adam lived his life to the full and did more in his 22 years than many people get to do in a full lifetime.
